John Sullivan is the former First Assistant Commissioner at the Cook County Board of (Tax) Review– the last place property owners can appeal their assessments before they pay their tax bills. While at the Board of Review, John gained valuable insight and experience when he heard and decided thousands of property tax appeals. As the First Assistant Commissioner, John supervised analysts at the Board of Review and helped establish many of the Board’s policies and procedures for reviewing property tax appeals. John’s intimate knowledge of the assessment process and the Board of (Tax) Review ensures that his clients’ property taxes are accurate.
John also has extensive experience as a trial attorney. Before being named First Assistant Commissioner at the Board, John spent ten years as an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney. He began his career in the traffic division prosecuting DUI cases and quickly rose through the ranks to become a senior prosecutor in the Gang Crimes Unit. Having prosecuted hundreds of bench and jury trials, John has the proven ability to prepare cases for trial and to litigate them successfully. John attended the DePaul College of Law in Chicago and Marquette University in Milwaukee.
